FISHING TRIPS
GENERAL FISHING
4, 8, 10 OR 12 HOUR TRIPS
The Bristol Channel has always supplied prolific fishing from its Banks, Gulleys and Reefs. For our general fishing trips we anchor the vessel and use either uptide or stand up down tide tackle.
The usual quarry on these trips are Huss, Smoothounds, Rays, Conger and Dogfish, but there's always a chance of other species as well.
General fishing trips can be either 4, 8, 10 or 12 hours in duration and depart from Minehead Harbour.
SPECIES FISHING
8, 10 OR 12 HOUR TRIPS
For this we use very light tackle and fish further west of Minehead past Porlock bay and fish the various reefs, mussel beds and sand banks for gurnards, bass, trigger fish, black bream, ballan wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, pollock, mackerel and garfish. With explosion in popularity of LRF fishing a lot of anglers now want to target the many mini species that inhabit this area including tadpole fish, scorpion fish, tompot blenny, topknot, poor cod and various types of goby’s. Its not uncommon to catch 20 different species in a day.
TOPE FISHING
8, 10 OR 12 HOUR TRIPS
The warmer weather brings with it some epic tope fishing and specimens of 60lb plus are not uncommon. These hard fighting fish provide excellent sport on uptide or lighter boat rods and are fished for both on the drift and at anchor. As with shark fishing we also operate a strict catch and release policy for these species.
WINTER COD FISHING
8, 10 OR 12 HOUR TRIPS
Winter cod fishing is what this area is best known for, and the colder months are the best time to target the Bristol Channel 'Mud Pigs'. Uptiding has proved the best method for catching cod with the best bait being lugworm tipped with squid although good catches can be had on other bait.
Other species available at this time of year are whiting, conger, rays, hard fighting spurdogs and the chance of the occasional haddock which have been appearing in larger numbers over the last couple of years.
SUMMER REEF FISHING
FOR POLLOCK AND BASS
8, 10 OR 12 HOUR TRIPS
In the later summer months we explore the reefs to the west of Minehead in search of pollock and bass.
Artificial lures are generally deployed for these trips although live sandeels can be an absolute killer for these hard fighting species.
